An Opening Statement:

My husband spent 4 years in the Air Force at which time we lived in Missouri. After his time in the service, he returned to a job with Dow Chemical, so we moved to Ohio. 19 years ago the job took us to Texas. We have lived in the same place since then, and I have taught at the same school since the move to Texas. My first year I taught 6th grade Resource reading and math. The next year they opened a Lifeskills (students with severe disabilities) class at my school, and I taught Lifeskills for the next 17 years. Last year I was an In Class Support teacher for 6th grade reading, language arts, and World Cultures and 7th grade Texas History. I will be an In Class Support teacher again next year, but I will not know for which grades or subjects until I return to school in August.
Over the years, I have owned 3 horses and rode hunter/jumper in competition for several years. I have no horses at the present time so my hobbies are reading, my granddaughters, and my grandson.

Three words to describe myself in 1969?

Tall
Shy (much of the time)
Timid (sometimes-like "Danny Meadow Mouse"-an
inside joke)

A Walt Whitman Story:

Does anyone remember "E.F.F.E." ("Experiment in Free-Form Education") from our senior year? I always knew I wanted to work with special needs children, but the experience I had working at a school during that week helped me narrow my choices down to public education. What a great opportunity we had to "try out" what we thought we might want to study in college!
Does anyone remember "It's Academic"? or going to state in basketball?

What was my BEST moment at Whitman:

There were lots of really good times at Whitman, but it was a lot of fun going to the basketball state championship game at U of MD and watching "It's Academic" from the studio audience.

My sister, Suzi, and my brother, Bruce.

I have always loved horses. For about 8 years I competed in Hunter/Jumper classes.

My Bucket List:

Retire so that I can spend more time with family. Go to Australia and back to Thailand, Scandinavia, and Alaska.

Well, I have started my 3rd year of retirement. After retiring at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, I have spent time reading, volunteering at the school where I taught for 21 years, and adopting a rescue dog. It has also been nice to be able to see my daughter in Colorado and not have to wait for school vacations to do so!!! Haven't made it to Australia yet or back to Thailand, Scandinavia, or Alaska, but I have done some US travel and 2 trips to Europe.

Famous or interesting people you've met?

Meadowlark Lemon

"Baxter"--who we think is 3. He is a stray "rescue". I am always curious about my pets, so I did a DNA test and found out that one of his parents was a Brussels Griffon/Chihuahua and the other parent was a Shih Tzu/and another mixed breed.

I'm so excited about the 50th reunion! At the present time, I have 5 grandchildren ranging from 1st grade to a sophomore in high school. The time goes by so quickly that they'll be having their own high school reunions before long....

Robbie Burk just reminded me of something regarding Barry. I think the camp that Robbie was referring to was my parents' camp, Ramblewood. At any rate, Barry did attend Ramblewood, but one of the things that really stands out about him is that even though he lived in Colorado at the time (a fair distance from Maryland) he still made a point of attending my mother's birthday party/camp reunion near Annapolis many years ago. That's the kind of guy he was....very caring and willing to go above and beyond to show others that they meant something to him. Rest in peace, Barry!

I am so sorry to hear about Barry! While I've lost touch with many of the 69ers, I remember him as such a nice and friendly guy. I know he put up a valiant fight against his illness...That's just the kind of guy he was. At least he will be at peace now, but much too young to leave us...

I, too, am very happy to know that you are very much alive and well and living in CO!!! My daughter lives in Pueblo, a bit further south than you, but she loves CO. Hope you continue to be well and enjoying life! Maybe we'll have a 50th reunion.....

Just a quick "hello", Marian. Are you still living in VA? Now that I'm retired and my husband is about to be, I'm hoping to get back to MD more often. My brother, Bruce, still lives there in Germantown.....
