An Opening Statement:

My husband spent 4 years in the Air Force at which time we lived in Missouri. After his time in the service, he returned to a job with Dow Chemical, so we moved to Ohio. 19 years ago the job took us to Texas. We have lived in the same place since then, and I have taught at the same school since the move to Texas. My first year I taught 6th grade Resource reading and math. The next year they opened a Lifeskills (students with severe disabilities) class at my school, and I taught Lifeskills for the next 17 years. Last year I was an In Class Support teacher for 6th grade reading, language arts, and World Cultures and 7th grade Texas History. I will be an In Class Support teacher again next year, but I will not know for which grades or subjects until I return to school in August.
Over the years, I have owned 3 horses and rode hunter/jumper in competition for several years. I have no horses at the present time so my hobbies are reading, my granddaughters, and my grandson.

Tall
Shy (much of the time)
Timid (sometimes-like "Danny Meadow Mouse"-an
inside joke)

A Walt Whitman Story:

Does anyone remember "E.F.F.E." ("Experiment in Free-Form Education") from our senior year? I always knew I wanted to work with special needs children, but the experience I had working at a school during that week helped me narrow my choices down to public education. What a great opportunity we had to "try out" what we thought we might want to study in college!
Does anyone remember "It's Academic"? or going to state in basketball?

What was my BEST moment at Whitman:

There were lots of really good times at Whitman, but it was a lot of fun going to the basketball state championship game at U of MD and watching "It's Academic" from the studio audience.

My sister, Suzi, and my brother, Bruce.

I have always loved horses. For about 8 years I competed in Hunter/Jumper classes.

My Bucket List:

Retire so that I can spend more time with family. Go to Australia and back to Thailand, Scandinavia, and Alaska.

Well, I have started my 3rd year of retirement. After retiring at the end of the 2012-2013 school year, I have spent time reading, volunteering at the school where I taught for 21 years, and adopting a rescue dog. It has also been nice to be able to see my daughter in Colorado and not have to wait for school vacations to do so!!! Haven't made it to Australia yet or back to Thailand, Scandinavia, or Alaska, but I have done some US travel and 2 trips to Europe.

Famous or interesting people you've met?

John Elway
Meadowlark Lemon

How do I relax?

Read, watch TV, play "Words With Friends" and "Trivia Crack", catch up with people on Facebook.

My Pets:

"Alex"--a Cockapoo that is mostly "poo"--Unfortunately, he passed away, but he lived to be 17 1/2.

"Baxter"--who we think is 3. He is a stray "rescue". I am always curious about my pets, so I did a DNA test and found out that one of his parents was a Brussels Griffon/Chihuahua and the other parent was a Shih Tzu/and another mixed breed.

I am a Veteran:

No

Yes

Hello, Shanna, I did not know your mom very well, but I was so very sorry to hear of her passing! I'm sending condolences and prayers to you and your family. My wish for all of you is that you find comfort in the precious memories that you have of her! Debi is surely watching over you now as she did while she was here.
