It is with great sorrow that I must inform you that my longtime friend and classmate, Betty Burgess, passed away quickly and peacefully on June 30th. She had been in declining health for several years.
Betty was my friend beginning in Pyle Jr. High, at Walt Whitman H.S, and throughout our many years of Girl Scouts. I cherish the times we spent walking home from school, at various scouting activities such as camping trips, spaghetti dinners and car wash fundraisers, as we saved money for our culminating senior trip to Europe. After graduation, we visited eight countries, saw and experienced iconic places, and enjoyed a wide variety of delicious food. Attached is a picture of Betty and I as we enjoyed an unforgettable and unique medieval banquet at Bunratty Castle in Ireland. Many years later, Betty and I reconnected via Facebook.
She had the sweetest personality and was the nicest person you would ever want to know. Betty leaves a daughter, Katie, son-in-law Eric and two beautiful twin grandchildren, James and Emily. May Betty’s memory forever be a blessing.

I, too, remember Betty from our Scouting days. Campfires, planning for trips, learning how to camp and backpack, going to activities that stretched our skills and compassion. She was always the sweetest of souls, and her family must be missing her terribly. May all of us hold her close in our hearts.

While it's sad to lose another 69er it sounds like Betty lived a richly fulfilling life. Memories of her will live on in the hearts of family and friends.

Spent some great times at Betty'house near Whittier Woods. Was in contact by FB but one day, her responses stopped. She lived in Iredell County, NC. Drove past and thru many times.
